MakerBot Desktop & MakerWare

"A complete, free 3D printing solution for discovering, managing, and sharing your 3D prints."

THE CHALLENGE

Make 3D printing accessible to everyone by streamlining the model preparation process and providing easy access to content.

MY ROLE

While MakerWare was designed for speed and ease-of-use in order to reach a broader market, it left a gap in the user experience of customers who were truly new to 3D printing.

MakerBot Desktop was designed to address unmet consumer needs and make discovery, preparation, and printing of 3D content easier than ever before. By integrating Thingiverse and the Digital Store into the app, printing content is reduced to a few clicks. For more deeply entrenched users, the Cloud Library offers a workflow for storing and managing privately created content.

I was responsible for much of the information architecture, interaction, and overall user experience design of both MakerWare and MakerBot Desktop, from initial product definition, through wireframing and validation, to guiding the visual design.

MakerBot Desktop was actively used by 40k+ customers.
