MakerBot Replicator 3D Printers
"The new standard in desktop 3D printing"
THE CHALLENGE
Design the user experience of a brand new line of 3D printers aimed at entry-level consumers, prosumers, and professionals alike.
MY ROLE
Tasked with the challenge of designing a cohesive user experience for MakerBot’s fifth generation of 3D printers. Including user interactions, embedded interface, connectivity, and integration with software and services.
I took on the challenge of designing a system of interactions that would remain consistent across a series of three very different printers. I crafted an interaction model to tie together embedded interface, desktop software, and web-based touchpoints.
Throughout the product development cycle, I facilitated user testing sessions, participated in branding and product positioning workshops, and worked with technical documentation writers and marketing to hone the customer experience.
MakerBot Fifth Generation printers shipped in March, May, and June of 2014.
